Next Meeting February 9th, 2010

All members are welcome and encouraged to attend our monthly meetings.

We will have two speakers at our February meeting. The first speaker will be Margaret G. Montemayor. She is running for County Clerk in the Democratic Primary. The second speaker will be Lawrence Morales. He is running for District Judge, 285th Judicial District. He is running in the Democratic Primary.
The Primary Elections are set for, Tuesday, March the 2nd. Please mark that date on your calendar! Take advantage of your right to voice you opinion about your government!

I have attached the URL to an article in todays (01-15-2010) New York Times. I'm sure this article will circulate through e-mail to many of you. The head of the article reads "Accord Reached on Insurance Tax for Costly Plans". I encourage you to read this article. I also want to warn you "don't go to the bank" with this information! The information in this article by Robert Pear and Steven Greenhouse is NOT the LAW! Your Association has been keeping in touch with the Office of Congressman Charles Gonzalez. The information we received yesterday has changed by this morning. That is why I say "don't go to the bank" with this information. We are very appreciative of Congressman Gonzalez's staff for keeping in touch with your Association. You can visit Congressman Gonzalez's website at http://gonzalez.house.gov/. Please visit http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/15/health/policy/15health.html and read the article in the NY Times. I would post the article but that would violate their Copyrights.

After you have read the article we would like for you to write your Congressman. Express your concern about the so called "Cadillac Tax". Yes this part of the health care proposal seems to be solved. Again the accord reach is not law yet. We cannot stop our vigilance. The letter to your Congressman would be best hand written. Make your concerns about the "Cadillac Tax" known and let them know you are watching!

We as members of the SAFPPA should take time to thank Gerry Clancy and Henry Trevino. They are our representatives on the Health Care Fund's Board of Trustees. Both are work very hard to protect our health care plan and to keep us informed about the Fund and health care legislation. Gerry Clancy made a very informative presentation about the status of health care legislation at our monthly meeting Tuesday the 12th of January. If members request I'll put an audio of his presentation on line.

Each and everyone of us can make a difference so "DO IT TODAY!"

I have received another e-mail from NAPO concerning the state of health care negotiations at this time.(Click Here) Voters were expecting the elections in Massachusetts to have an immediate impact on health care negotiations. This may or maynot be happening. Many people are becoming frustrated because their representative in Congress are NOT getting the message.
We must continue to contact our representatives and express our point of NO TAX ON OUR HEALTH CARE!

HEALTH CARE!
